a different thought...maybe

i'm not usually a fan of bird baths. at all. i'm not sure why, really. i tend to associate bird baths with people's yards who like to put a lot of yard art in their living space. you know, yards like this:

i'm just certain if we could step into this picture we'd find a bird bath---maybe two--just past these lovely goodyears.

also, when i think of bird baths i usually think of those tacky plastic or cheap concrete ones that are scalloped or shell shaped. ick. when's the last time you saw a bird drinking out of a shell, plastic or otherwise?

however, one little bird bath caught my attention the other day and now i can't stop thinking about it.

this little bath is, well, little. it's shorter than most so it's not obnoxious. it's got a great aged patina with black and orange and green on the base and stem. and, the bowl isn't a shell and is completely scallop free. it just has a thick outer wobbly circle, and i happen to love wobbly circles. this bath also has an intriguing island to one side. i say intriguing because, if i were a bird or some other small creature, and came upon this bath, i'd like to wonder over to see what might be happening on wobble island.

so, the question now is, do i become a bird bath person or abstain? i've been mulling over this important dilemma for a week.

starting with...italy...

this is really just a test so i can see what something on my own little blog might look like. i figured if i was going to post something that was "found" on something new i'm starting to make me happy, then why not post the scene i "found" when waking up in italy last spring after arriving to florence via pisa's night train.....

here's to many happy findings....
